Within the project called "Inguruko hegaztiak" (birds of our surroundings) that has taken place during the winter of 2012-2013, it was done a more exhausted monitoring of three sampling areas that were taking part in the project. In those places, in addition to the weekly data on the presence of different species that frequented them, there were carried out several ringing days aimed to mark these passerines and to do a monitoring later on.

Among the ringed birds, some of them have been seen moving between gardens and the surroundings of other participants of the project.

Furthermore, we have also interesting and curious data about some birds that after have spent the winter among us, have been recovered outside our borders while they were migrating to their breeding areas or that have already arrived there.

This is the case of the Greenfinch, that was marked in a feeder of Gautegiz Arteaga the 17th of February this year and has been recovered the 8th of May in the region center of France, 540 kilometers in a straight line from Urdaibai. The recovery has done in Saint Julien de Chedon, a small village close to Loire river. We must thank the reference of the ring to the person who found the Greenfinch when it was caught by a cat in his garden.

This last recovery confirms the danger that cats pose for the survival of the birds of our surroundings.
