From some days ago, we are noticing the increasing presence of small pre-saharan birds, either on their way to the south of the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa, or having finished their autumnal migration will stay with us to pass the winter.
Among all these species we must mention the Water pipit (Anthus spinoletta), as coinciding with the first specimen that have come to spend the winter in our marsh areas after have brought up in mountain areas, we have received the interesting recovery of a specimen ringed by us in March 2007.
The sighted specimen doing the fattening. Detail of the ring of Aranzadi.
Specifically it is about a bird that we ringed while it was spending the winter in the marshes of Gautegiz Arteaga. After 5 years, this specimen has been seen this June in an area of high mountain in the Italian Alps, concretely in Canosio (Gr. Vallone), 800km away. This bird was in full breeding season as it was seen feeding continuously in the area where it was breeding.
The location of the recovery and alpine views
We must also emphasize the difficulty in obtaining these recoveries of especies like Water pipit that have so little accessible and frequented habitat distribution such as alpine habitats.
To this fact must be added that the ring reading is something difficult to get, because this bird was observed by a ringer member of the Italian Ringing Centre, that without having captured it, had made a complete photographic monitoring until being able to read this small ring. |
