Some New England (EEUU) farmers first began to built artificial nests for ospreys in order to encourage their breeding as they wanted to avoid the disturbance caused by other raptors to the chickens.
The placing of these artificial nests have been spread to many other countries since then,  and the amount of breeding couples has increased considerably as well as their distribution area. This is due to the artificial nests have increased Osprey´s breeding success with the establishment of new couples and consequently the number of chicks that survive each year is growing up thanks to the provider of new possible breeding areas where the appropriate breeding holders for ospreys are not very common.

Furthermore, this artificial platforms may encourage the colonization of new breeding areas for Ospreys.

Since the installation of the artificial nests in 2009 in Urdaibai, it has been seen that migratory Ospreys are keen on using this  kind of platforms for resting, feeding and even for overnighting.
