At the beginning of the week, Rafa Garaita has announced us that the first specimen of an Western Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) have been seen in Urdaibai marshes and few days later we are able to see them here in Gautegiz Arteaga.

This year is not an exception for the Osprey, and one of the most outstanding species has reach our land departing from Germany, Great Britain or Scandinavian countries. It covers determinate areas of the marshland that are used for feeding or resting purposes to recover energy for the rest of the journey to Africa. This way we can enjoy with the leaps the Osprey makes into the water trying to catch some fishes.

 

Moreover, each specimen that decides to stopover in Urdaibai usually chooses specific holders and keeps fishing in the same place until restarts again the migration. Although this can make that more than one ospreys may be seen not only at the same time in the area but flying together, it´s not common to see them landed together in such a small area as it shows the image below.
