Last week a group of primary children from the UK and the Basque country could be heard cheering loudly for Pink Floyd.

The Basque children come from the small village schools Montorre and Urretxindora and the British children from Empingham CE Primary School. Contrary to what you might believe, they were not rock music fans attending a concert. These children had gathered in Urdaibai Bird Center (The Basque Country) and Empingham School (UK) to hold a skype meeting about the ospreys they follow.

This activity is part of the "Osprey Flyways Linking Communities" project. This global environmental education project is coordinated from Rutland Water in Leicester, and focuses on the osprey. Activities are organized in schools all over the world.

The Basque and British children were getting ready to share their latest osprey news and experiences.....

Just as the call was about to come in there was a shout from the viewing platform of the Bird Center. "PF is here!!" Everyone was amazed! PF or Pink Floyd, as he is known, is one of the ospreys the Basque children follow and he had come all the way from Africa, arriving just in time for the skype meeting.

Pink Floyd, was translocated from Scotland in 2014 along with 9 other individuals. He is part of the reintroduction programme being carried out by the Urdaibai Bird Center. It is hardly surprising that his arrival raised a huge cheer from all the children at the skype meeting, both the British and the Basques. We join them in shouting "Three cheers for Pink Floyd!" We would also like to congratulate all the children on their hard work. They are learning a lot about ospreys, migration and more.
