Beautiful and interesting observations

Yesterday, as it was announced we celebrated the international day of the birds, with a great attendance of amateurs that enjoyed one of the most spectacular natural sights, the bird migration.

It was a especially good day for the watching of the migratory birds, during the day, there was a great variety of species of water birds, feeding and resting on the marshes of Gautegiz Arteaga.

Among them, it is very remarkable the incomparable show that an Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) gave, even flying very close to the people.

The scene was guaranteed, we could watch the osprey perched, flying, fishing and after that, eating what he captured.

In addition, there were a lot of Grey Herons (Ardea cinerea) and different ducks, among others, Gadwalls (Anas strepera), Teals (Anas crecca) and Wigeons (Anas penelope) that filled the marshes.

We did not miss the Marsh Harrier (Circus aeroginosus) that could be watched perched and flying.

Some Spoonbills (Platalea leucorodia) were feeding with their unusual bill and characteristic head movements.

And we could also see two rarities, the Caspian Tern (Sterna caspia) and the Western Great Egret (Ardea alba).

This entire beautiful scene was followed by the participants of the both visits offered that day, the self-guided ones and the ones guided by the technicians of the center.

In the same way, it was also remarkable the demonstration of ringing carried out by the ringers of the center, where all the items related to the scientific ringing were showed.

Among the passerines ringed there, the Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) stands out because this is a little insectivorous bird that has a great trans-Saharan migration.
