Meeting on Biodiversity Information and Environmental Governments

On the 21st November, Ainara Azkona, Urdaibai Bird Center's researcher and Leire Oreja, the director of the Department of Botany, both of Aranzadi Society of Sciences, took part on the IV Meeting on Biodiversity Information and Environmental Governments, organized by the Department of Environment, Territorial Planning, Agriculture and Fishing of the Basque Government and the Coodination Unit of GBIF Spain. The objective of this meeting is to gather together technicians of the public government that work with different aspects of the biodiversity information, for providing the common share and integration of data and information about biodiversity and the search of common solutions.

In this work field, one of the organized cycles of presentations was the "Stablishment of synergys among the data producers" where the aim was to know the point of view of the researchers for the gathering of data, the management of the data bases, the combination of the voluntary work with the professionalized one and how is the role of the government seen from this other perspective.

Because of this, Urdaibai Bird Center presented the case of the scientific ringing in the Department of Ornithology of Aranzadi Society of Sciences and the Department of Botany did the same with the two examples of the Herbarium of Aran and the Bank of Germplasm. In relation with the scientific ringing, the aspects explained were not only the international  organization of the ringing but also the one carried out by Aranzadi Ringing Scheme, the different research lines developed by different members of the scheme and the diverse way of working, from the sciencific works fulfilled by experts volunteers to the projects included on the professional scope, as the ones carried out in the department of investigation of Urdaibai Bird Center.
