The sunshine and the crowds turned out in force to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day with us.We counted 300 people and, of course, the birds were there for everyone to enjoy Under the shade of the trees, our Scientific Bird Ringing sesión gave visitors the chance to see a wide variety of species up close, amongst them a wren, blackcap, robin and blackird. Everyone enjoyed this experience, especially the children who were not only passive spectators, but also active helpers, noting down the data gathered. At 11:00 the center opened and the museum quickly started to fill up. Amongst the visitors were Italians, French and Germans. We were also pleased to see many old friends from the Basque country, people who come to all our events and are always excited to share a bird watching experience. It was indeed a great weekend for birding. On Saturday we counted 60 species and on Sunday 47. 3 Great egrets were be obseverved as well lapwings, spoonbills and a purple heron. The widgeons and shovellers that have arrived to winter in Urdaibai were also enjoyed by all. As they crowds gathered in the museum our second evento also got underway. First there was a short talk about migratory birds and insects and then our visitors set off on a guided walk in the marsh. The weather was definitely on our side. Throughoutr the day there was a great atmosphere in the center. We want to thank everyone for coming and making it so lively! Until next time!! |
