Sunday, 06 October 2024 09:24 |
In the last few weeks raindrops and spoonbills have filled the skies over the Urdaibi Bird Center. The seasons are changing and as we humans are getting out our jumpers and coats, the birds are winging their way south to warmer climes. Migration is in full swing! To mark this wonderful natural phenomenon, we will be celebrating World Migratory Bird Day on October 13th. The theme for this year is Bugs for Birds. Insects are a vital food source for birds and have a great influence on the success of the breeding process and the bird's ability to complete their migratory journeys. We have two different events planned to celebrate the day. From 10 to 12:00. we will be holding a scientific ringing demonstration which will be available for all visitors. You do not have to sign up for this session. Our second activity will be a short talk and a guided walk for a limited number of people.
This event will focus on insectivores such as the swallow, the swift and the sand martin. This activity will take place from 11.00 to 12.30 and you must sign up by calling 699 839 202. In addition, from 11:00 to 16:00 the centre will be open and admission will be free, so you can enjoy the birds that are landing on the marsh from the observatory. The spoonbills are resting in the lagoon during their migration, the teals and the wigeons are already arriving, Muxar, the wintering osprey is with us for another year, every day the migration surprises us with a new visit. World Migratory Bird Day is the perfect way to experience nature before the winter begins.. So get out a warm jumper and call a friend. Its time to celebrate! |
