Last weekend visitors to the Urdaibai Bird Center were able to take part in an amazing experience thanks to the organization, Sounding Wild Exploration. The SWE team is made up of two brothers, Axel a sound engineer and Ario a photographer. Together they are travelling along the East Atlantic Flyway in search of sounds, images and stories to share in a new and exciting way. Here at the Urdaibai Bird Center we were extremely privileged to be part of Sounding Wild´s journey. Axel and Ario spent three weeks with us exploring Urdaibai, recording sounds and making images at all times of day and night. They recorded the song of the reed warbler and were even able to film it! That is a difficult feat indeed! They also followed the life a black woodpecker and its young. With patience and passion, they got to know the heart of Urdaibai. After weeks of hard work and early mornings, Axel and Ario were ready. The material they had gathered became part of an installation which visitors to the Urdaibai Bird Center could experience. Sat in the midst of ten loud speakers and equipped with VR headset our visitors embarked on an immersive virtual reality and spatial audio journey through the Urdaibai Biosphere. They were wrapped in birdsong and beautiful images floated before their eyes.
The combination of technology and nature was very powerful! Everyone wanted to try the experience! Axel and Ario have now embarked on the second stage of their journey. We are very grateful to these two brothers for sharing this innovative way of experiencing nature with us. From Urdaibai we wih them the best and luck and look forward to seeing them again. |
