The last visit to observe the ospreys.

Last Sunday was the last in a series of 4 visits to observe ospreys. Organized as part of Urdaibai Bird Center´s environmental education programme, the visits were jointly funded by the Basque Government and the Biscay Provincial Administration. The 65 available places were filled almost immediately.

Ospreys were sighted on all four of the visits. N3 was seen in his territory. This male osprey has spent the last 4 years in Urdaibai but is yet to find a mate and breed. Other ospreys were also seen on their migratory journeys. September is a great month for observing these magnificent birds in the Urdaibai estuary, as those which breed in the north are now heading south to their wintering grounds.

Any day now, N3 will begin his own migratory journey, heading off to warmer climes.
