International Collaboration Networks

The International Network of Bird Centers

Urdaibai Bird Center aims to create a network of collaborating centers situated on the same route as that followed by our birds, i.e. the coastal wetlands of the East Atlantic Flyway.

Throughout the year, a number of different bird species or populations can be found at each point along that route. These birds serve as a link between the geographic areas where they breed, stop over to rest and feed and winter.

In order to generate suitable cooperation dynamics, these centers must share certain characteristics with Urdaibai Bird Center:

-They must be located on a coastal wetland along the East Atlantic Flyway.

-They must study the birds living in the marshes of the area through censuses, marking or other techniques.

-They must have a vocation for spreading, and therefore, employ audiovisual devices so that visitors can familiarise themselves with several aspects of ornithology in an attractive way.

They must obtain their own audiovisual material (photographs, videos, etc.) from the birds living in the area on display.

They must have interconnection devices to link them to other centers in the network, so that they can show real time images of birds in the marsh through live cameras, hold video conferences with people who may be conducting particularly interesting projects, etc.
