-URDAIBAI RESERVE- In mid-June we had an interesting visit of technicians of Rutland Water, the first place in England where it has recovered the Osprey breeding after 150 years, using the technique of “Hacking” which is used in the recovery project in Urdaibai. Pete and Jackie Murray, are good friends of the UBC (Urdaibai Bird Center), and are two experienced environmental educators that work at Lyndon Reserve in the wetlands of Rutland Water in Leicestershire (in the middle of England).

Pete and Jackie are "ambassadors" of the project in schools in England and lead the international project "Ospreys flyways linking comunities" involving more than 150 schools that share different experiences and knowledge all about Ospreys. One of its most important tasks is to spread the message of protection of this species in places that exceed the borders of England, such as Gambia, Italy, Scotland and Basque Country among others. And on the occasion of that mission passed by Urdaibai Bird Center and offered a conference on their work with the osprey in Lyndon Reserve.

On their visit to Urdaibai were able to visit the equipment for monitoring and the hacking tower for the Ospreys in Urdaibai and they watched N3, our most faithful Osprey. Later they offered a very interesting conference in English to some Urdaibai schools partners in the international school network, about the Osprey project in Rutland Water culminated in 2001 with the breeding of the first pair of Ospreys in England after 150 years. Nowadays eight breeding pairs of this specie breed around the wetlands in Rutland Water. Over the last 16 years, 117 young Ospreys have been borned since that year, contributing significantly to the conservation of the species and its expansion in the British Islands.
