The Mauritanian Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development visits Urdaibai Bird Center

The Urdaibai Bird Center was recently visited by a delegation from the Mauritanian Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD). This visit took place within the framework of the recent creation of the Star Bay Nature Reserve on the Cape Blanc Peninsula (Mauritania). Their trip to Urdaibai Bird Center was part of a longer tour during which the delegates got to know different protected which share similar characteristics and problems to those in Star Bay. The delegation also participated in environmental education experiences. The members of the delegation were Djibril Ly (Director of Coastal, Wetlands and Protected Areas of the MEDD) and Mohamed Lemine, (Mauritanian coordinator of the Waca Project for Coastal Management in West Africa, managed by the World Bank). They were accompanied by Pablo Fernandez de Larrinoa and Hamdy M'Bareck, heads of the Monk Seal Conservation Program of the CBD-HABITAT Foundation and the Annajah Association |
