First a huge thank you to everyone who made Sunday´s event so special. There was a great atmosphere in Urdaibai Bird Center and both our outdoor and indoor events were a big success. Our ringing sessions started bright and early, amidst the lush greenery around the center. Our visitors got the chance to compare a male and female black bird and then there was a special treat – a male greater spotted woodpecker. As our participants enjoyed the demonstration, spring chicks could be seen in the surroundings. Nature in all its glory! Jonothan Rubines and Txema Fernandez were on hand to take our sights futher afield in the presentation of their new book "Rutas Para Observar Aves". In this fascinating book readers can discover new places to enjoy birds in Euskal Herria and its packed with handy tips and information. Jonothan and Txema had lots of ideas to share. Having learnt a great deal about new walks to do, our guests were in need of refreshment. We had a light lunch overlooking the stunning views of the marsh. To top it all we raffled three books, which were later signed by the authors. Of course the guests of honour were the birds, the 7 spoonbills that came to the Orueta marshes to shelter from the wind, the stilts who were busy building their nests, a majestic purple heron and a huge group of plovers, to mention just a few. What a lot to celebrate! Two days later we are still smiling! Thanks for making it possible! |
