Brighten up your Winter! Sign up for "Garden Birds 2021-2022" and enjoy the birds in your surroundings.

Winter has arrived and once again, Urdaibai Bird Center has started " The Garden Birds Project". This project helps people get to know and enjoy the wild birds around them.It is a really popular project in northern Europe and thousands of families participate every year.

It´s really easy to get involved. By placing some simple feeders in your garden you will attract birds throughout the winter. In just a few days, you will have the company of many delightful species.

In spring and summer these birds have enough food to eat as they prefer insects and berries that are available in the environment. However, in early winter when these natural sources start to dwindle, the birds will flock to the feeders. The extra food helps them survive the hardships of winter.

Garden Birds is open to schools and families or anyone else that wants to participate.

This year there will also be a Garden Birds Section on our website (http://www.birdcenter.org/es/educacion/inguruko-hegaztiak). Here participants can find useful information such as how to register and use the Facebook account to share sightings, photos and videos of the birds which come to their feeders.

Once enrolled in the project, you will need a place to hang your feeders. It should be close to a green area with trees or bushes but it can also be on a balcony or terrace.

Fill feeders with food such as sunflower seeds, peanuts, fat balls, etc.

You can buy these products in the Urdaibai Bird Center store, but we also have two points of sale nearby, (San Isidro Cooperative in Gernika and Murueta Garden Center)
