Portada 3The wigeons have arrived from the north, announcing the end of summer with their wonderful songs. The landscape surrounding the Udaibai Bird Center has taken on the colours of autumn, the reeds are golden and the leaves are falling from the trees along the shore.

The wigeons fill the lagoon with music, colour and life. However, even these energetic birds need to rest. Our camera and telescopes offer spectacular views of these birds taking a break.

They are often accompanied by other species such as the teal, another beautiful wintering duck.

From time to time, pintails approach, birds that add a touch of elegance to the scene. At the moment there are around 60 wigeons, 30 teals and about 20 pintails in the wetland.

Among our visitors the snipes are also present. These impressive birds have beautiful plumage and striking beaks. They are not always easy to spot, as they are very well camouflaged. However, with a little luck you can see them among the branches exploring the mud and puddles in search of tasty invertebrates or preening themselves on a branch.

Cormorants are also out in force. There are about 35 of them, and it is fantastic to watch them fish in groups, their collective movements acting like a net, gathering the fish in a concentrated area to make them easier to catch. Our school visitors are delighted to see them drying their wings after their aquatic adventures.

And, of course, we must not forget the flamingos, who continue to enjoy their rest and respite in the Orueta and Ozollo marshes.

These unexpected visitors have been with us for about two months now. We do not know how long they will stay, but we believe that their food sources have become scarcer due to the time of year. They now feed in both the freshwater and saltwater areas of the lagoon. It is an absolute privilege to host these beautiful creatures and everyday we enjoy the presence. Let's hope they extend their stay!

With all the life in the marsh, birds of prey have plenty to watch. Sparrowhawks and marsh harriers are very interested in the wildlife around them, so why not join them?

It's a great season for birdwatching and the views of the landscape are breathtaking.

We are open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 to 17:00.

We look forward to seeing you!
