Five Star Summer!

What a summer we have had! People have flocked to the Urdaibai Bird Center from far and wide to enjoy the luxury of the wetlands and the birds.!!

A glimpse at our visitors book reflects the wonderful experiences people have had observing the birds in this beautiful haven.

Whilst many people have arrived from the Iberian Peninsula (Galicia,Murcia, Madrid Andalucia etc), there have been many Dutch, French, Belgian and British visitors. We have even had visits from Israel, Japan, Switzerland, Italy and Greece.

And what about the birds? Well, they have been spectacular. Undoubtedly the stars of the summer show have been the 2 young ospreys, XBI and U28, who have been visiting the Orueta/Ozollo lagoons almost daily.

Th arrival of 105 spoonbills is a moment that will remain in the minds of many.

As migration continues, who knows which birds are winging their way towards us.! This week we have spotted bar tailed godwits, birds which breed close to the arctic.

We would like to like to say a big thank you to everyone who came to enjoy the Urdaibai wetlands with us.

Last but not least we send a huge hug to the fantastic volunteers who have helped us spread the conservation message.It really was a 5 star summer!
