On the occasion of ending the campaign of study and monitoring the Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio) in Biscay, one of the persons that knows more about this species on the Iberian peninsula, Alberto Lizarraga, was invited to give the seminar "The Red-backed Shrike: habitat, breeding parameters and predation"

Previously to his speech, Juan Arizaga made a little summary of the new finished campaign in Biscay (and particularly in Urdaibai) about this species. He made a review of the located and monitored territories, what was a task in which the involvement and collaboration of the volunteers was very important and for this reason, he repeated the gratitude of Bird Center because of their help.

After that,  he commented the criteria for the selection of the couples of which the male was marked and how was the process of marking, taking biometrics and the attachement of the geolocators by the researchers of the center.

Subsecuently, Alberto Lizarraga explained the most important aspects of the biology or the ecology of the Red-backed Shrike, begining with its distribution on the continental range and in a smaller scale, how is distributed the species in Navarre where he studied it.

On the other hand, he commented the most important characteristics that determine the selection and use of the habitat of the monitored couples of Navarre and the comparison with the requirements of another populations, just as the description of the nest and the breeding parameters during the years of study. Finally, he emphasized the importance of the predation by different types of animals on species like the red-backed shrike and the level of threat that can reach in each of the different distribution areas.

Once the presentation finished, there was a very interesting question-and-answer session that allowed the comparison of some aspects observed during the monitoring of the species in Biscay and their differences with the observed by Alberto.
