Today, we have celebrated successfully in the Urdaibai Bird Center, despite the bad weather, the World Wetlands Day.

The visit of a group of Eurasian Spoonbills (Platalea leucorodia), newcomers to the marsh, brought to a spectacular close in the celebration of this commemorative day. Some of these birds carried Dutch rings.

For those people interested in learning more about nature around us and more particularly about wetlands and the birds living in them, we have scheduled four free visits to the center during the morning.

Among other aspects, the attendees could learn in the best way, the importance of the marsh for a lot of water birds, that is, watching them in their habitats carrying out their daily activities such as feeding, resting, defending their territories and even fleeing from their predators during the exciting moment when a bird of prey turned up on the wetland.

The many species of water birds sighted, among others, were: Common Greenshank, Black-tailed Godwit, Northern Lapwing, Little Grebe, Great Cormorant, Eurasian Coot, Greylag Goose, several ducks, Grey Heron and Little Egret... As we have said before, merits special attention the interesting sight of a group of newcomers Eurasian Spoonbills, probably due to the weather. We have seen them first resting and feeding later on, "sweeping" the water with their peculiar beaks that are highly specialized; they took their name from this special feature. So they gave to the attendees moments of sightings worth of the best documentaries.
