Volunteer programme in environment and nature tourism at the Urdaibai Bird Center, summer 2021

The volunteer programme will take place from June 1 to September 15, 2021

Shifts (three people per shift):

June 1 - June 30

June 1 - June 15

June 15 - June 30

July 1 - July 31

July 1 - July 15

July 15 - July 31

August 1 - August 31

July 31 - August 15

August 15 - August 31

August 31 - September 15

The programme aims to give volunteers training and experience in areas related to environment and nature tourism. They will be given the opportunity to develop their skills in the field of ecotourism, research and environmental education.

Volunteers will work in the following areas:

- Environmental education on the nature in Urdaibai.

- Customer and visitor service 

- Observation and interpretation of the birds in the marsh.

- Participation in bird monitoring projects: a ringing campaign, monitoring the reproduction of the osprey in Urdaibai. 

- Participation in projects related to habitat management.

The following aspects will be valued in the selection process:

- Reasons for participating

- Experience and knowledge in ornithology, ecology and the natural environment

- Experience in customer service 

- Language skills (Basque, English, French ...)

- Knowledge of the nature and biodiversity in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve

Accommodation will be provided for volunteers. This will be in the Urdaibai Bird Center itself.  Food and travel expenses will be covered by the volunteer.

Near the center there are many places of exceptional beauty to visit: Santimamiñe caves, coastal cliffs (Ogoño) beaches (Laida, Laga) Cantabrian oak forests, Atlantic countryside.

Once the programme is finished, the participants will receive a certificate to verify their work and experience during the volunteer period.
