Last Wednesday the last young ospreys from the project set off on their migratory journey from Urdaibai. In July this year, 12 ospreys were collected from nests in Scotland and brought to the Basque Country. This was the fifth year of the project, the aims of which are to recover the species in Urdaibai.

One of the ospreys is carrying a satellite device which provides information on both her migratory journey and her movements in her wintering quarters in West Africa. Aline, as she is called, is from Kimbrace in Scotland. She is named in honour of Aline Sitoé Diatta, a heroine from the Casamance Region who fought against colonialism.

Aline left Urdaibai at around 10.30 and by 12.00 she was flying over Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Having spent the night near Alalo (Berlanga del Duero, Soria) she set off again at 8:00. Heading south she flew over Manzanares de Valdepenas (Ciudad Real). The last position given by the Argos satellite indicated that on Thursday at 17.00 she was flying into Andalucia via the Depeñaperros pass.

Meanwhile, we continue to receive information from the satellite device carried by Cousteau, the osprey which left Urdaibai last year. We know that he is safe and sound in his wintering quarters near Ziguinchor (Casamance, Senegal).
