Return of White Storks to Bizkaia

Wednesday, 01 February 2017 08:34

In January we have begun to observe the returns of White Storks to Bizkaia. Usually males arrive first while females are delayed for a few days or weeks. In this territory of the Basque Country the White Storks leave their nests at the end of August to return at the end of December or in January. Because of the bird ringing, we know that some migrate to sub-Saharan Africa while others stay in Iberian Peninsula. In the picture the newly returned male from Forua's nest (Urdaibai Reserve), an individual that replaces Uzelay, the one who was slaughtered about a year ago.
