We have no sign of the osprey "Urdaibai" that we released last year.

After a year following his adventures through African lands, the Satellite transmitter of the Osprey Urdaibai has stopped sending information, so we can not know the location or movements.

Urdaibai is one of the birds that has given us more surprises throughout the year. His first weeks in West Africa were already amazing.

After arriving at the Saloum Delta in Senegal, great refuge for thousands of wintering birds, Urdaibai flew over the west coast of Senegal, Gambia and Guinea-Bissau.

After a few days, it decided to leave behind the large deltas and extensive mangroves to return to Dakar, the Senegalese capital. It settled in a wetland in the middle of the city, close to a golf course, where it remained more than 20 days. It seemed a safe place.

In early November, it returned to the south coast of Dakar, known as the Petite Côte, and after a few days it returned to a safe place on a pier in the region of Thies. Urdaibai remained there a long time, in which Aitor Galarza, director of the project, had the opportunity to travel to the place, locate, make sure it was in good condition and the site was safe. You can read a short review of the trip in Urdaibai Ospreys Section.

Urdaibai surprised us again in spring by making a one-week trip back to Guinea-Bissau, but after those days it returned to its pier. The satellite transmitter sent out an activity reading the first weeks of August, it was in Somone Reserve in Senegal, a common place of wintering for hundreds of species, including ospreys.

It is in these days when the Satellite transmitter has failed to send signals. But we see no cause for alarm, as the place in which it is probably located is a safe place and the young Urdaibai has shown us to be a great survivor.

In any case, you may dispel all doubt when the young osprey released in summer in 2013 could come back to Urdaibai every year.

We are waiting for him.
