A unique opportunity in Urdaibai! Volunteer program in environment and nature tourism at the Urdaibai Bird Center, summer 2025

Take part in our annual volunteer campaign! There are many dates available between between June 1st and September 15th.

The program aims to give people experience in areas related to environmental education, ecotourism and research.

Volunteers will take part in the following:

Working with the public
In our observatory - environmental education and dissemination of the natural resources in Urdaibai.
In our reception – general customer and information services

Working with nature
- Observation and interpretation of the wetland birds.
- Participation in bird tracking and monitoring projects, bird ringing, daily sightings...
- Participation in projects related to habitat management.

In the selection process we value the following:

- Experience and knowledge of ornithology, ecology and the natural environment
- Customer service experience
- Knowledge of languages (Basque, Spanish, English, French...)
- Knowledge of the nature in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve

This programme takes place in an area of stunning natural beauty. It gives participants the chance to visit places like the Santimamiñe Cave or Laga and Laida beaches. In addition, there are coastal cliffs, Cantabrian holm oak forests, and areas of Atlantic countryside to enjoy

Accommodation will be provided in the Urdaibai Bird Center.
Food and travel costs are not covered by the Urdaibai Bird Center.

The registration period will be open until June 18th and those selected will be notified on June 20th.

People who opt for the first 2 slots in June will be notified on May 25th.

Preference will be given to candidates who choose one-month stays.

At the end of the programme, participants will receive a certificate of aptitude for the work carried out during the volunteering period.
